Give a Child Access to a Brighter Future through Reading!

Om Baby is teaming up with Usborne Books & More to get a new book in the hands of every single one of the 1,144 children in the Capital Area Head Start program. Our goal is to raise over $2,848.13 in donations, and we need your help. Usborne Books & More has agreed to match our donations by 50%*, so with our $2,848.13 and their match of $1,424.07, we can purchase $4,272.20 in books to give to these children!

To donate, please send funds using
PayPal to holly@ombabycenter.com.

This means that your money gets multiplied to help us distribute books to low-income families, and that each child in the program will receive a new book of approximately $5 value. For example, your donation of $20 will buy books for 6 kids.
A $40 donation will buy books for 12 children.

Capital Area Head Start provides comprehensive child development services to children ages birth to five in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry Counties. Serving primarily low-income families, Capital Area Head Start has over 20 community-based centers in urban, rural and suburban areas. All children in the Capital Area Head Start program receive educational, medical, dental and nutritional services to prepare them for public school and the world at large. Equally important, Head Start actively empowers parents, enhancing their personal competencies, while increasing their access to social services, job training, GED completion or higher education and employment opportunities.

Research shows that the children who have 100 or more pieces of literature in their homes will make significant strides and perform better on tests than those that are not as fortunate. These kids need our help.  They need good books to call their own and to be taught the value of reading.  There is no better way to encourage that than by ensuring that they have access to quality books, and Usborne and Kane Miller books are the most exciting, engaging, and educational books on the market today. They are high quality, innovative, lavishly-illustrated and best of all, they are the books kids love to read.

A National Adult Literacy Survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Education found that children who have not developed some basic literacy skills by the time they enter school are 3 - 4 times more likely to drop out in later years. Let’s combat that by getting a book into the hands of the children in the Head Start program.
