Touch for Birth
The Workshop
This six-hour training will be in the form of a participative workshop with a lot of hands-on practice. The following topics will be covered:
¨ introduction to touch
¨ the gate control theory of pain
¨ hand and foot massage
¨ introduction to Swedish massage, stroking and kneading techniques
¨ basic skeletal anatomy of the spine and pelvis
¨ pain relieving touch techniques
¨ pressure points
¨ working with a stalled labor
¨ self care for the doula during labor
Prerequisites
The Advanced Doula Training Workshop is designed for doulas and doulas in training who wish to build on their hands on skills acquired during their Birth Doula Training. No prior experience in massage therapy is required.
Materials
Bring one pillow and a yoga mat if you have one.
Minimum: 4 registrations
Maximum: 14 registrations
Registration Deadline: Pre-paid registration required by January 1, 2012
