An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a breastfeeding specialist trained to help mothers and babies with latching difficulties, painful nursing, low milk production, inadequate weight gain, and many other issues.

She helps mothers understand the fundamentals of lactation and supports their efforts to learn how to feed their babies. She may help women meet their breastfeeding goals in light of special circumstances such as returning to work or school. She can also offer advice on breast pumps and other supplies.
