How Much Can You Grow?

What can be planted in a such a small area, you ask? Remember, each 4 x 4 square foot garden is divided into 16 growing areas.  Here is an example of what can be grown in one, 4×4 square foot garden:

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 head of broccoli
  • 1 head of cauliflower
  • 4 heads of romaine lettuce
  • 4 heads of red lettuce
  • 4 heads of butter crunch lettuce
  • 9 sugar snap peas
  • 9 bunches of Swiss chard
  • 9 bunches of spinach
  • 32 carrots (using 2 squares)
  • 32 radishes (using 2 squares)
  • 18 beets (using 2 squares)
  • 16 onions

And that is just the spring harvest! In late spring/early summer, you could replace each of these crops and grow even more in the same garden!
