Have you ever seen your child pull a carrot out of the ground? If so, then you know the priceless look on their proud face when they start making the connection that the food they eat comes from plants out in the field. Our Little Gardeners workshop is put on monthly during the growing season by a collaborative effort from Om Baby Pregnancy & Parenting Center and Wooden Hill Farms. Our goal is to help develop childrens' connection to the natural world through educational, fun and interactive gardening activities.
Classes are held on site at Wooden Hill Farms of Duncannon, just 20 minutes North of Harrisburg. Children will begin to get a sense of where their food comes from and the natural processes plants go through. Each workshop can be attended individually, but parents are encouraged to attend all monthly sessions in order for their child to gain an understanding of a complete growing season. Each month will have a different focus depending on what real farmers are doing that time of year. For example, come to our workshop in the Spring and watch your child learn about seeds and even help plant! Come to the workshop a month later, and your child will begin to grasp the continuity of it all by seeing that the seed they planted a month earlier sprouted into a tiny plant! All workshops will mix the educational component with fun hands-on activities. Get ready for your children to learn about gardening using all of their five senses!
Little Gardeners will be taught by Marley Skinner. Marley graduated from Rutgers in 2007 with a degree in Environmental Policies and Behavior and Agroecology. She has a strong love of nature and especially enjoys her time growing and arranging flowers. She has been gardening with her father since she was a little girl. This year she will begin taking classes to obtain a secondary degree in Nutrition.

Birth Story Workshop
Coming Again in Fall 2010
photo courtesy of Harry Jones and the Unitarian Universalist Church of OakCliff
Giving birth is a profound life-changing event in which we birth our children and we birth ourselves as parents. New mothers may not have good places to tell their stories of their experience in a place where they can really be heard and validated. This can make it hard for her to integrate her experience and can hamper her ability to be present to the task of mothering.
This workshop is for women who would like to share and learn from their birth stories. This workshop is geared for those who may be troubled by parts of there birth and want to move toward healing. Both sharing and introspective exercises will be included.
The workshop is for anyone who has given birth who would like the opportunity to share her experience regardless of how and when you birthed.
This workshop is being presented by Juji Woodring. Juji is a Certified Professional Midwife, mother of two, Registered Nurse, and Certified Birthing From Within Mentor. She brings compassion and curiosity to her work with expectant parents. She has been studying, teaching and attending births for the past 7 years.
4 person minimum to hold class. Pre-paid registration required by February 20th.

Grandpals Program
Monthly Community Service Event
10:00am
March 23rd - St. Patrick's Day Rainbows
Teach your child at a young age to give back to the community! Children and parents get the chance to bring some sunshine to their Grandpals at Frey Village by participating in toddler/preschool friendly seasonal craft activities such as pasting pieces of a turkey (along with real feathers) onto paper for Thanksiving, making ornaments out of dyed red and green noodles for Christmas, pasting "worms" (green yarn) onto apple pictures for September. The children love it because they get to do art and get milk and cookies when they are done. The Grandpals LOVE watching the toddlers explore the room and spend much time flirting with them. And the moms get to instill in their children the importance of community.
